I think that will pretty much sum it up. A human being is shaped over their life, based on the experiences and challenges they have faced. We all have faced our own and different challenges, and how we allow them to shape us, creates the end human being. My soon to be 55 year old human being never thought he would be running for a political office, but here I am. The challenges and experiences in my life has shaped me into the AMERICAN that I am.
Iron sharpens Iron as they say. My road to here has not been easy, but there have been some mentorship that helped shape and mold me into the person I am today. Who is that person? Let me explain.
I am a extremely patriotic American, who has been through war for his country. I did not need to go. I was older and had a successful business after 9/11, but I gave it all up and went. I left a wife and children, one that was only an infant to go war. Again I did not have to go I chose to go.
I left home in Emmett in 1985 with zero dollars to my name. I joined the US Marines. I wanted nothing more than to run from my poor childhood. I spent the next 30 years trying to get back to my beloved Emmett. I finally settled a few miles away in Middleton. Instead of retiring, I went into business. Every business I have been involved with has had success to some extent. I was able through hard work, dedication, smart decision making, and just plain stubbornness made them work. I know how to balance a budget, work within my means, and how to leverage assets in order to grow. I know that having the right people around you makes all the difference in the world. Needless to say I am an excellent judge of character, you cannot rise up on your own without that skill set.
Venturing out into the world, coming from such a small town, left me vulnerable many times. I will tell you matter of fact, that all of my success (as small as it may be) has come from failure. Those failures have taught me the most valuable lessons of life. Success only comes from those you surround yourself with. Employees, mentors, friends, family etc. thus surviving meant quick and decisive judgment skills. Those exact same skills keep you alive in combat. I am a VERY good judge of character, and often say I have a PHD in human nature. So to some people I come off as blunt, rough, obtuse. I am just honest and direct, Those who truly know me, know I am honest to a fault, respectful yet confrontational when needed, no better friend, no worse enemy.
So with me opening my self up to constant criticism by running for public office, and opening my personal background up to you, you can see that I am very transparent. I will always tell it like it is. I do not come from a “feelings” background. I come from a result driven background. If you are right I will absolutely tell you so, conversely, if you are wrong, pushy, or a fraud, I will absolutely call you out on it. I plan to be exactly the same way in the senate. What you see is what you get. far too many candidates and politicians tell you what you want to hear, and run on paper thin resumes and fraud. I assure you this is not the case with me.
So almost 55 years of this world has brought me to this exact moment. The moment when I tell you that I can do the job of senator. I can cut taxes, I can compel cities, to tighten their budgets, I can bring great businesses to Middleton and Star. I will not stand for the status quo, I will not be owned by the political elite or any Political Action Committee. I am firm but fair. Like a good looking mix of Judge Judy and Donald Trump. (Humor).
My values in a nut shell
- The United States of America
- The US Constitution
- The great state of Idaho
- My family and my faith
The lowest possible ranking will be me. I do not seek fame, power, or notoriety. I just want to serve and give to the the country and state that has made me.
I do not take the word leadership lightly. My reputation and my word is all I will have to take to my grave. You can trust me. I think that is what it is all about. I have held the highest level of clearance this country issues. I have been polygraphed 5 times for national security reasons. How many other candidates of politicians have had that? It all boils down to trust. You can trust me to do the right thing.
Being a part of a community is something that returning combat veterans need to focus on. I have been a softball coach at Middleton High School, and was a small part of a team that won state 3 years in a row. I have also been a substitute teacher at the high school when my schedule would allow. I am the southwest Regional Director for Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry. I enjoy promoting all our community programs in Middleton in my newspaper, allowing them free reign for content. My family and I have given time to the chamber of commerce to help run the Middleton 4th of July parade and festivities. Always trying to do our part to be good community partners.
